Where do I get my supplies from?

August 25th, 2008 -- Posted in aromatherapy oil, essential oil | No Comments »

When I buy my essential oils I always try to buy organic oils from a reputable source. Some of them I get easily from my local pharmacy and health food store, although I have found some very poor quality ones in there at times.

That is all well and good for the common oils, but there are some I use a lot of that are less common. I have found several websites over time that offer the different things I need, from oils to ways of burning them.

Essential wholesale :This site offers a wide range of oils and carrier oils, all certified 100% organic. The also carry cosmetic bases, herbs and candle stuff.

Acne and Aromatherapy

August 17th, 2008 -- Posted in aromatherapy oil, essential oil | No Comments »

Oh woe is me! That was my teenage daughter yesterday morning as a spot broke out on her face, just before the “big date”. Luckily I have a couple of essential oil recipes up my sleeve for just such an occasion.

Usually we just use Tea Tree Oil, dabbed directly on the offending pimple. This is particularly good for septic looking pustules. It usually clears them within a day or so, and an improvement is seen far more quickly. This time, however I decided to try a recipe I found using  some new oils I have just got.

Essential oil Acne Recipe

1 drop each of Lemon oil, Lavender oil and Rosemary oil  in six drops of evening primrose oil.

It worked like a charm. The spot, which I admit was not very big to begin with, had gone thirty six hours later. I’ve made a bigger batch in a dropper bottle for her now because the mix will improve if left, and become more potent.

Lemon and Lavender are well known antispetic oils, and she much preferred the smell to the medicinal smell of the Tea Tree oil. ( I’ll admit I snuck a few drops of Tea tree into her special bottle.) Evening primrose oil is the ideal carrier for this because of its skin healing properties.

Essential oils in Aromatherapy Soy Candles

August 10th, 2008 -- Posted in essential oil | No Comments »

Most soy candle kits that you can buy provide fragrance oil, this is not essential oil. To get the best out of the aromatherapy properties of your soy candles you need to use essential oils. The best thing about using them is that you can personal the fragrance. You also need to use less, about 30 to 60 drops per 8 ounce candle instead of half an ounce of the provided oil.

You get to pick exactly what aromatherapy fragrance you want in the soy candle, and get to make your own blends to suit what you want to use them for.

There are two ways of using pure essential oils with soy candles. You can take an unscented candle and light it and add a few drops of your chosen oil to the melted wax that forms on the surface. this works well with container candles, such as tea lights. make sure you don’t drop the oil on the wick though, as its highly inflammable. This is best for fragrances you don’t use often.

The second way is to mix your chosen blend into the candle wax when you make it. Add between thirty and sixty drops to an eight ounce candle, depending on how strong you want it to smell.

Here’s one my favorite stress busting blends, use it in massage oil, or add it to your candles when you feel stressed and irritable.

  • 7 drops neroli
  • 3 drops lavender
  • 20 drops lemon
